Our next concert will be the first under the direction of our new Musical Director, John Clenaghan, and it is an unusual and exciting mix of choral items. Accompaniment, on the piano and organ, will be provided by Nigel Brown.
The programme comprises
Choruses from Part I of ‘Messiah’ (Handel) PLUS ‘Hallelujah’ with soloist Penny Manser (soprano).
–‘The twelve Days of Christmas’ in an amazing arrangement by Bob Chilcott. If you are bored with the traditional version, this will be an eye-opener!
–‘A Feast for Christmas’ by Alan Bullard which comprises six Christmas-related movements including a recipe for a Christmas feast and Christmas pudding in addition to a Christmas Grace. The work ends with a well-known Christmas song for the audience to join in.
Finally – as a contrast to Christmas cheer, we have sneaked in a short, but very tuneful Mass by Haydn ‘The Little Organ Mass’. (Presumably it is the Mass that is little because the Binns organ in the church is quite big)! Again Penny will be our soloist.
After the concert there will a buffet to which everyone is welcome.
Entrance, including the buffet, will be a mere £10.00 (accompanied children 16 or under free)
We are looking forward to seeing you on 8th December.
